Girl Guides are always ready for new adventures and challenges. To celebrate ten years of partnership, PGL is sponsoring the Girlguiding Heights badge. This badge can be earned through a variety of activities that take you off the ground and are enjoyed at height, making it perfect for those who want to conquer their fear of heights.

Our adventure activities provide the ideal environment for Girl Guides to face their fears, build confidence, and have fun along the way. Here’s how PGL can help Girl Guides overcome a fear of heights while earning their Heights badge.

PGL Activities to help overcome a fear of heights

1. Climbing

Climbing is an exhilarating activity that offers a sense of accomplishment. At PGL, Girl Guides can tackle various climbing walls, including indoor walls and outdoor towers, each designed to push their boundaries, gradually building confidence with each ascent. Professional instructors are on hand to provide guidance, and we always use a top-rope belay, ensuring safety while motivating participants to reach new heights.

2. Abseiling

Abseiling at PGL is another fantastic way for Girl Guides to overcome their fear of heights. This activity involves descending a 10-metre vertical wall using a rope, which might sound daunting to our guests but is incredibly empowering. Girlguiding units are taught the essential skills and techniques to control their descent, while the support and encouragement from the group play a crucial role in boosting individual success and confidence.

3. High Ropes Course

The High Ropes Course is a thrilling obstacle course set 12 metres high above the ground. It includes a series of challenges such as rope bridges, tightropes, and balancing beams. This activity is designed to test balance, coordination, and nerve. It’s perfect for Girl Guides looking to step out of their comfort zones, and are supported by experienced instructors every step of the way.

4. Jacob’s Ladder

Jacob’s Ladder is a team challenge that requires cooperation and trust. The ladder is made up of huge, widely spaced logs, and participants must work together to climb as high as possible. This activity is not only about conquering heights but also about leadership and communication skills. Guides learn to rely on each other, offering support and encouragement, which makes reaching the top an even more rewarding experience.

5. Trapeze

The trapeze jump at PGL is an activity that combines the thrill of flying with the challenge of overcoming a fear of heights. Guides climb to the top of a 6-metre platform, then leap to catch a trapeze bar. It’s an adrenaline-pumping experience that requires courage and a leap of faith, giving participants a real sense of achievement.

6. Zip Wire

The Zip Wire is a favourite among adventure seekers. For Girl Guides, this thrilling activity is a fantastic way to overcome a fear of heights in a fun and exhilarating manner. The sensation of soaring through the air over a lake or forest is unforgettable and provides a massive confidence boost, leaving participants eager for more!
