PGL Breakthrough Fund FAQs
What is the PGL Breakthrough Fund?
The PGL Breakthrough fund is designed to help more young people access the life-changing experience of a PGL residential trip. It provides funding support for schools working with children and young people who might otherwise miss out.
Who can apply?
The group award is available to UK schools with 41%+ pupil premium, supporting PGL residential trips for communities facing financial or other barriers.
The individual award supports any pupil who may be unable to attend a PGL residential due to financial barriers.
How much school trip funding can my school group receive?
School groups can apply for at least 50% of the total cost of their PGL residential. Funding is awarded based on need and the details shared in your application.
What can the funding be used for?
Funding for your school trips is there to help cover the cost of a PGL residential for the young people in your group who need it most. It’s designed to help remove financial barriers to participation.
How do I apply for the Breakthrough Fund?
Just complete the short online application form on our website. You’ll need to tell us a bit about your group, your trip, and who you’re hoping to support.
When should I apply?
We recommend applying as early as possible. Applications must be received before your final balance due date, and because school trip funding is limited, early applications have the best chance.
How long does it take to receive a decision?
You’ll usually hear from us within a few days of applying. We’ll get in touch with you directly once a decision has been made.
What criteria are used to assess applications?
We look at the level of need within your group and the potential impact of the trip. Priority is given to groups supporting young people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.
Is there a deadline for applications?
There’s no fixed deadline, but all applications must be submitted before your trip’s balance due date. Funding is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
If my application is successful, what happens next?
If you’re awarded funding, we’ll apply it directly to your PGL booking. We’ll confirm everything with you and let you know what happens next.
