Is your netball team looking to up their game? Well, you’re in luck! At PGL, we’re all about enhancing skills, both on and off the court. Our netball weekend camps aren’t just about scoring goals – they’re about leadership, teamwork, communication and most of all, having fun! But what should you pack for your netball residential? In this blog, we’ll guide you through all the essential items you need for your netball camp adventure.

What is a netball camp?

First, let’s clarify what a netball camp is. Also known as a netball weekend, this is an immersive, residential experience where players gather for a weekend of training, skill development, and team bonding. Under the guidance of experienced umpires from England Netball, players get the chance to play in a tournament, enjoy multiple outdoor adventure activities, including evening activities, as well as indulge in 3 nutritious meals per day.

What to expect on your netball weekend

The experiences your netball team will gain are invaluable, with sports trips offering numerous benefits for bonding and personal growth. Here’s what you can expect from one of our netball camp programmes:

  • A weekend dedicated to building team bonding and personal development.
  • A current or upcoming member of the England Roses Squad or a Vitality Netball Superleague player will attend the event for the presentation ceremony to meet players, sign autographs and pose for pictures.
  • Umpires provide hints and tips on improving players’ techniques/abilities
  • Engage in a variety of thrilling adventure activities!
  • Enjoy three well-balanced and nourishing meals daily.
  • Exciting evening activities designed to enhance social skills and foster peer encouragement.

What to pack for netball camp

Netball gear

Start by packing two good pairs of trainers that provide excellent grip and support on the court. Make sure they are comfortable and appropriate for the playing surface, whether it’s indoor or outdoor. In addition, pack durable ankle supports or braces if needed to protect against sprains. If you play as a defender or centre, consider bringing any protective gear you typically use, such as knee pads, to safeguard against falls and collisions.

Appropriate clothing

Bring your bibs, team dresses, shorts, and skirts, along with several pairs of socks to keep your feet dry and comfortable during training sessions and matches. To prepare for various weather conditions, pack a selection of breathable t-shirts, and long-sleeved tops to wear to participate in PGL activities. Don’t forget a lightweight jacket or hoodie for cooler days, and consider including a waterproof jacket in case of rain. Suitable nightwear and clothing for the evening are also recommended.

Personal hygiene essentials

Keeping clean and fresh is essential, especially after a rigorous netball training session or thrilling adventure activity. That’s why packing travel-sized toiletries like shampoo, body wash, roll-on deodorant, and toothpaste is a must for your netball residential, so you’re always ready to tackle the day feeling revitalised. Be sure to bring one towel for showering and one towel for drying off after partaking in the activities too.

Water bottle and snacks

On a netball residential, hydration is key to peak performance and recovery on the pitch. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it regularly throughout the day. Snacks such as energy bars, and fruit are excellent for refuelling between sessions and keeping your team’s energy levels up. At PGL, we cater for many different dietary requirements, providing tailored meals for individuals who are coeliac, diabetic, vegetarian/vegan, or have food allergies.

Sun protection

Whether it’s sunny or overcast, UV rays can still cause harm to your skin. So, remember to pack sunscreen with a high SPF rating for protection during outdoor training sessions. And don’t forget essentials like a baseball cap or hat and sunglasses to shield your eyes and face from the sun. These simple precautions ensure you stay safe while enjoying your time on the court.

Home comforts

To ensure you get a good night’s sleep so you’re raring to go each day, a sleeping mask and earplugs can also help ensure a restful night’s sleep, especially if you’re sharing a room with other players. We also encourage kids to bring home comforts such as a blanket or cherished teddy bear because even accomplished athletes experience homesickness!

Important: We strongly recommend leaving valuables such as mobile phones, computer games, and jewellery at home, as they are not covered by our insurance.
