Looking for some fantastic adventures with your scout camp? Well here are some scout activity ideas that you can do back at home! We know how adventurous scouts are — they love to explore. So why not try out some of these epic activities?

Ideas for scout activities

1. Hike

Head off for an adventurous hike with your scout group! It’s a great chance to explore certain areas whether a forest, beach, or the countryside. You can change it up a little too, for example, you could look for creatures or animals along the way. It might even help your scouts work towards the requirements for some badges.

At PGL, your scout group can take part in a range of different hikes/walks, experiencing the delights of the Suffolk coast beach at Bawdsey Manor, or enjoy the Burn Walk at Dalguise in Perthshire.

2. Campout

A campout is great fun, especially with a group! It’s a great opportunity for your unit to showcase their camping and survival skills. Can they gather wood and make a fire? We’re sure they can! Camping also helps your scouts connect with nature as they ditch their devices and find fun in the great outdoors!

A particularly popular activity for scouts at PGL is our survival activity, where they work together to create a shelter in our forest, amongst a range of other survival activities.

3. Birdwatching

This is a much-loved activity from many people all over the world. Grab your binoculars and get looking for the incredible wildlife. It’s great for developing your scouts’ observational skills as they peer through the lenses searching for birds in the trees. Why not encourage them to identify what they find and note them down? This way they can begin to make a list of the birds they have spotted, and ones in the area that are still hiding!

4. Geocaching

Geocaching is a bit of a mix between orienteering and a scavenger hunt. On the geocaching website, find a capsule close to your scout base and then you can get searching! It’s a fantastic activity that improves their navigation and problem-solving skills. What’ll be inside the capsules you find?

5. Raft building

One of the greatest ideas for scout activities is raft building, and we’ve got it right here at PGL! Get your scouts’ creative juices flowing in a raft building challenge. In teams, your scouts must create a raft from the materials provided. Sounds easy? Not quite. At PGL, we raise the stakes as the rafts will be tested by the groups themselves for added fun!

6. Star Trail

The night sky is out of this world (literally too!). So why not explore it, from Earth of course, on a star trail? You could be camping in the countryside with your scouts, or just meet at your base, either way, you’ll still be able to see the incredible formation of stars. Can any of your unit connect up the stars and spot the constellations? This is a slightly more calm adventure, but it sure doesn’t mean it’s any less exciting. You never know, you could even see a shooting star!
