Whether your group is aiming to sharpen their skills or just enjoy a new challenge, these ideas will keep the energy high and the smiles wide. Let’s dive in and get started!

Six sports activities your group can do at home

1. Indoor football

Transform any living room into a mini football field with an indoor football game. Use soft, lightweight balls to avoid damaging your furniture or walls. Create goals with cushions or chairs and divide into teams. Set up some simple rules to keep the game fair and fun. Your team could even do a few practice sessions with dribbling drills or penalty shootouts. It’s a fantastic way to improve coordination and teamwork while getting everyone moving. And don’t fret -this activity does not need 11 people on each team!

2. Obstacle course

Creating your very own obstacle course is one of the most thrilling sports activities your group can do at home! Be as creative and challenging as you like using household items like pillows, chairs, and blankets to create a series of hurdles, tunnels, and balance beams. Time each participant and see who completes the course the fastest. This activity not only provides physical exercise but also encourages problem-solving and agility.

3. Hula hoop challenge

Challenge your group to see who can keep their hula hoop spinning the longest. For added fun, try different variations such as hooping while walking or using multiple hoops. This activity is a great way to improve core strength and coordination, and it’s sure to spark lots of laughter. If you don’t have hula hoops, you can make your own using flexible plastic tubing or even try hooping with a scarf or ribbon for a fun twist.

4. Soft netball

Netball is a fantastic team sport that can easily be adapted for indoor play. Use a soft netball and set up goals using laundry baskets or large bowls. Make sure the area is clear of any obstacles too. Split groups into two teams and set up simple rules to mimic the actual game, but adjust them as needed to fit the setting. This is perfect for enhancing interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and hand-eye coordination.

5. Scavenger hunt

A scavenger hunt is an exhilarating activity that combines problem-solving with observational skills. Depending on your group’s interests, you can make it themed–like a treasure hunt or nature trail. Next, create a list of items or clues that participants need to find around the house, park, or garden such as a book, a hidden toy, or different types of leaves, rocks, flowers, or animal tracks. To add an extra layer of fun, include tasks that must be completed before moving on to the next clue.

6. Tug of war

Tug of war is a classic game that brings out everyone’s competitive spirit. Use a sturdy rope or an old sheet as your tugging tool. Make sure the area is spacious and the surface offers good grip to avoid slipping. Mark a centre line on the floor and have each team pull from opposite sides and whoever gets the other team to cross the line, wins!
