Here, your group not only gets to engage in thrilling outdoor activities but also has the opportunity to work towards a variety of badges – it’s just one of the many benefits of being a scout. So, if you’re curious about how to earn your Scout group’s activity badges, keep reading to discover more!
What are Scouts activity badges?
Scouts activity badges are special awards that recognise a scout’s achievements and experiences in various areas of interest. These badges cover a wide range of activities, from athletics and fire safety to cooking, money skills and much more. Each badge represents a unique opportunity for Scouts to learn new skills, explore their interests, and grow as individuals.
At PGL, we offer a wide range of scout group camp activities necessary for earning or advancing towards badges awarded by the official Scout Association. These include Physical Recreation, Water Activities, and Staged Activities like Nights Away.
How to earn Scout activity badges
Navigator
One of the most exciting aspects of scouting is the opportunity to explore the great outdoors. To earn the Navigator badge, Scouts need to develop a range of map-reading skills. This includes learning to locate themselves on a simple map, identify key locations and learn the four cardinal points of a compass. Our PGL orienteering activity offers a fun and practical way for Scouts to meet these requirements and develop their navigational skills.
Water Activities
For Scouts who love the water, the Water Activities badge offers a chance to dive into aquatic adventures. From swimming and canoeing to raft building and surfing, this badge covers a vast array of water activities for scouts. By mastering these essential water-related skills, Scouts can achieve their badge at PGL and gain greater confidence, all while having a ‘splashing’ good time!
Physical Recreation
Staying active and healthy is an essential part of the scouting experience. The Physical Recreation badge encourages Scout to participate in sports, fitness activities, and games that promote physical well-being. Whether it’s playing soccer, going for a hike, or practising archery, Scouts must display a positive sporting attitude and demonstrate to leaders the training and preparation undertaken to earn the badge.
Staged Activities – Nights Away
In addition to individual Scouts activity badges, groups can also work towards Staged activity badges like Nights Away. These badges enable your Scouts to earn whichever badge is appropriate based on their skill level in that particular area. To earn the Nights Away badge, they must join a supervised overnight trip, which doesn’t require camping in a tent or being outdoors; it can be in a lodge or even a museum.
