Technology and screen time are often viewed as unavoidable parts of day-to-day life. From catching up with friends on social platforms to watching the latest trending videos, it’s no surprise that children aged 8 to 14 spend an average of nearly 3 hours online every single day.

While this seemingly harmless pastime can help develop new skills and build social connections, excessive screen time could quickly become detrimental to their academic and personal development. Spending too much time online is closely linked to poor sleep, reduced concentration and heightened stress levels.

To support a healthier balance, Green Park school trips are specifically designed to encourage a digital detox for children in the UK, helping pupils unplug, reset and thrive.

What Are the Benefits of a Digital Detox for KS2?

The Key Stage 2 (KS2) years already represent a transformative and challenging period for many pupils as they prepare for exams and the transition to secondary school. While screens can be a valuable revision tool, they could also contribute significantly to anxiety during this notable milestone.

Benefits of a digital detox for KS2 pupils may include:

  • Better sleep quality
  • Reduced exposure to online pressure
  • Enhanced focus and academic performance
  • Strengthened social skills
  • Improved physical health
  • Greater participation in offline activities

For more insight into the benefits of a digital detox for children, our guide provides simple but effective tips to support taking a break from technology.

What Does a Digital Detox at Green Park in the Chilterns Look Like?
