Adventure is hungry work

We know how important it is for kids to stay fuelled and full of energy for their adventures, which is why our meals are both nutritious and delicious! Our centres serve a variety of tasty dishes designed to appeal to young appetites while ensuring they get all the goodness they need.

We serve generous portions of fruit, vegetables, and carbohydrates, and children can also help themselves to our fresh salad bar at lunch and dinner. With a mix of hot and cold meal options throughout the week, we make sure every child finds something they love — so they can focus on having fun!

Allergies, intolerances, coeliac disease and special diets

Our commitment

At PGL, we want all guests to enjoy their stay safely and confidently. We work closely with schools, parents, supervising adults and party leaders to understand dietary requirements and support guests with food allergies, intolerances and medical dietary needs wherever reasonably possible.

Our catering teams regularly provide meals for a wide range of dietary requirements, including: Food allergies; Coeliac disease and gluten-free diets; Diabetes-related dietary needs; Vegetarian diets; Vegan diets; and Religious and cultural dietary requirements

We encourage all dietary requirements to be declared before arrival so that our teams can plan appropriately.

Food allergies

We have robust procedures in place to help manage food allergies and provide accurate allergen information for the 14 allergens required by UK food law.

Where a guest has an allergy to one of the 14 regulated allergens, our teams can work with the party leaders/supervising adults to identify suitable meal options and explain the controls we have in place.

We also recognise that some guests may have allergies or sensitivities to foods outside the 14 regulated allergens. While these are not routinely monitored in the same way, we encourage party leaders/supervising adults to discuss any concerns with a member of our catering management team prior to your stay. We can then work with you to understand the requirement and identify suitable options where possible.

Tree nut and peanut awareness

PGL does not intentionally serve products containing peanuts or tree nuts as ingredients within our standard catering offer. In UK centres, products carrying precautionary allergen statements such as “may contain nuts” are also not permitted in our kitchens. In French centres, these are avoided wherever reasonably practicable.

To help protect guests with nut allergies:

· Parents, schools and party leaders are asked not to bring peanuts or tree nuts onto centre. This request is communicated through our pre-arrival information and kit lists.

· Vending machines, retail shops and social hubs (where available on site) do not intentionally stock products containing peanuts or tree nuts as known ingredients.

However, PGL cannot guarantee that any centre is completely nut-free. We do not have visibility or control over all food brought onto site by guests, visitors or colleagues and therefore cannot guarantee the absence of peanuts, tree nuts or nut traces.

Important allergen information

While we take allergen management seriously and have procedures designed to reduce risk, all food is prepared and served in environments where allergens may be present. For this reason, we ask you to speak with a member of the team to discuss our processes, to enable informed decision making.

Guests with severe allergies or complex dietary requirements should discuss their needs with us before arrival and speak to a member of the catering management team at the start and during their stay if they have any questions or concerns.

Working together

The safety of our guests relies on partnership and communication. By sharing dietary requirements early and maintaining open communication before and during a visit, we can work together to provide the safest and most suitable dining experience possible.

We request that guests do not bring food into the dining room without prior agreement from the catering management team.

Measuring nutrients (carbohydrates)

For guests who need to measure and control their carbohydrate intake, the carbohydrate content of core dishes is available from the sample menu on our website, by portion and per 100g. The catering management team will facilitate the weighing of required portion sizes. Scales are made visible to the party leader/supervising adult who must take ownership for the required portion weight (unless the child is on a PGL Kids’ Camp, when they would be responsible for measuring their own portion weights). All Centres have scales that are flat based, digital and can be zeroed, with accuracy to within 5g as a minimum, following Diabetes UK guidelines. Carb content information is also available on request from Centre, for the self-serve foods such as cereals and salad bar.

WiFi is available at all our centres

Wifi is now available across all of our centres. We understand some guests use online apps to manage their dietary needs. Our improved network provides faster connections and greater reliability across our centres.

Fussy eater guarantee

We know that some children are very particular about what they eat and if the menu doesn’t suit, we can provide alternatives to ensure no-one leaves the dining room hungry. We do often find, however, that children are more likely to try new things at PGL that they wouldn’t normally eat at home – it’s all part of the PGL experience!

Information for schools and groups

Party Leader and supervising adult responsibilities

Prior to arrival at the centre, the Party Leader is required to read and understand the following responsibilities. Any questions should be raised with their PGL contact.

  • Informing PGL of any guest’s food allergy/intolerance/coeliac disease prior to arrival by completion of the SEND and Dietary form. This must be done upon confirmation of the booking, or as soon as possible after if situations change. Information must be provided in writing, rather than verbally, at least two weeks’ before travel.
  • The Party Leader or another supervising adult must accompany your group to the dining room at every mealtime.
  • Accompanying children with medical dietary needs at the servery every mealtime. Supervising adults/Party Leaders are responsible for checking that food taken by children meets their dietary requirements; especially, although not limited to, those with severe allergies. Children with allergies/medical dietary needs will only be served in the presence of a Party Leader/supervising adult from their party.
  • Schools and groups are welcome to bring along their own system for identifying children with allergies (e.g. the system they use in their school canteen) – for the Party Leader/supervising adult within the party to manage allergies in a way in that is already familiar. This is, however, on the understanding that PGL colleagues will not be familiar with the system, and that we cannot make any changes to the PGL catering operation, given that we accommodate multiple groups at any one time.
  • Determining the required portion weight of foods for guests with diabetes and those counting their carbs. The responsibility for observing what a child eats and their activity levels lies with the Party Leader/Supervising Adult, as a child may eat less than provided, or supplement it with food from self-serve counters.

And finally…

It is a matter of pride and principle that no child leaves a PGL dining room hungry! They are always welcome to revisit the self-serve stations and help themselves to more.

We always welcome your comments and would be delighted to discuss any aspect of our catering with you. If you have any comments, please let us know as soon as you can, whilst you are on centre, so we can adapt to your requirements.
