Why summer is the BEST time for a PGL trip

Summer is the perfect time to take learning beyond the classroom. Longer days, warmer weather and the natural momentum of the end of term create the ideal environment for students to reset, reconnect and push themselves further. A PGL secondary school trip helps students:

  • Celebrate success after a demanding academic year
  • Boost wellbeing with time outdoors and away from screens
  • Strengthen friendships before key transitions
  • Build independence through challenge and responsibility
  • Improve motivation ahead of exams and further education
  • Make the most of the weather with watersports and outdoor activities
  • Create unforgettable memories that bring year groups together

FAQ

What’s included in a secondary school residential?

From accommodation to activities, equipment, food and drink – everything you need is included when you book a school trip with PGL. We expertly plan your itinerary, ensuring your days are filled with adventure on our secondary school residential trips.

What’s the food like?

We know how important it is for kids to stay fuelled and full of energy for their adventures, which is why our meals are both nutritious and delicious! Our centres serve a variety of tasty dishes designed to appeal to young appetites while ensuring they get all the goodness they need.

We serve generous portions of fruit, vegetables, and carbohydrates, and children can also help themselves to our fresh salad bar at lunch and dinner. With a mix of hot and cold meal options throughout the week, we make sure every child finds something they love — so they can focus on having fun!

What happens in the evenings?

Following on from a day of adventures, your students will tuck into a delicious meal in our canteens. Then, it’s time for some more fun! In the evenings, your students can compete in quizzes and games, and sing songs around the campfire. On one evening, your students might also be able to have a bit of a dance at our disco! It’s great fun.

After this, it’s time to wind down and get into bed. Your students will be getting involved with more adventurous activities in the morning so they’ll need a great sleep!

What’s the residential accommodation like for secondary schools?

Depending on your secondary school residential trip location, the accommodation is often dormitory-style rooms in our main buildings, chalets and other facilities. However, we also have some tent villages available at some locations.

Our dormitory rooms can hold large groups of students, some of which feature en suites and some with shared facilities. For teachers, we have single and en suite rooms available, as well as tents which can sleep one or two teachers.

Is there support for students with SEND or ASN?

Yes, absolutely!

At PGL, we have dedicated SEND adventures for secondary school pupils. We make sure that everybody with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or Additional Support Needs (ASN) can join in the fun, with specially trained teams who support inclusion with activity adaptations and more.

We are also members of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative and an accredited Disability Confident Employer.

How do Revision Weekends support revision?

Students benefit from structured study time, high energy activities and a focused environment away from distractions.

Do teachers need to run activities?

No – our qualified instructors and group leaders run all sessions. Teachers can join in or simply enjoy watching.

What happens if the weather changes?

Our activities are designed to cope with the great British weather! But in extreme conditions we do have indoor options, so your programme continues whatever the weather.

Is the Ardèche Adventure suitable for all students?

It’s designed for older, more confident groups — typically Year 9 and above.
