With the end of the academic year just around the corner, it’s a time of mixed emotions for young people, from the excitement of summer plans to anxieties around what lies ahead. The summer break offers time to think about how to shape the next stages of life to suit their future plans and start to get skills in place to make that a reality.

Our Skills4Life programme provides a solution to bridge the gap between school and further education. Developing vital life skills that switches feelings of worry and anxiety into confidence that creates ‘I can do this’ moments. So that when young people are faced with new environments, they can thrive.

School’s out for the summer, what comes next?

After months of hard work, revision and a tough exam season, thoughts turn to what life will look like outside of school walls. At this stage students have a world of opportunities at their fingertips. Whether the next step is college, sixth form or an apprenticeship, building up a solid foundation of skills before starting something new is so important.

Taking part in our Skills4Life programme helps young people to truly reach their potential, on whatever path they take.

Life feels good in Higher Education when you have the right skills

The final years of school focus around succeeding in GCSEs / National 5s, the Higher Education environments that follow require a new skillset to be able to tackle increased day to day pressure. However, at this stage young people are able to make choices around the subjects they want to study, getting stuck into topics they’re interested in lets young people find their voice and discover enjoyment from independent learning.

Adapting to Higher Education will be taken in their stride with:

  • Resilience to be able to keep a positive outlook
  • The ability to focus on important tasks and studies
  • Confidence within themselves and what they can achieve

Furthering skills and pushing personal growth is what our Skills4Life programme offers, so that young people leave feeling ready for a new environment.

From homework straight into a work environment

For some young people the final year of school is the last time they’ll be in full time education. After the highs and lows exam season, they’re feeling ready to wave goodbye to the classroom and make their way into the world of work. Whether that’s an apprenticeship or working alongside part time training or education, it’s a big step and complete change of environment.

Our programme is tailored to 14-18 year olds and provides practical skills to help with this type of transition. With these skills the work environment can be embraced with ease:

  • Good communication – how to be clear and concise
  • Wellbeing – an understanding that looking after yourself is key to succeed
  • Teamwork – to encourage collaboration with colleagues

First day nerves are a thing of the past when they are starting with the skills you need to succeed.

Shaping the future starts with the steps they take now

Now that exams are over and the summer holidays are on the horizon, it’s not all fun and sun, it’s a good time to explore how our programme could enhance your summer plans. The skills and experiences gained over 5 days of inspiring lessons and exciting activities will make a positive impact on what the future holds.

The skills, confidence and personal growth we see at our centres stays with young people long after they leave – find out more about Skills4Life.
